The girl who knows what Photo Synthesis is!

So here’s about the most important part of my day these days. After I have quit my job, all I’m doing is teaching my help’s 12-year-old girl. I thought, there won’t be any struggle as the girl appears to be sincere and hard working. But, as usual she comes from a typical background in which father’s an alcoholic and often destroys her study material in abbreviated condition. In the morning she goes around helping her mother with her job and then she looks after her younger ones and if there is any time left, she comes to me and study. Still she giggles, makes colourful earrings, cracks jokes with her childlike innocence. I’m her didi who scolds her whenever she gets late, pamper her with lots goodies, if she performs well.

She looks forward to our time together, as it is a break from her domestic chores and helping her mother. I adore when she steps in and says good morning, which she learnt in school.

She surprises me with her dedication, even after her parents’ disturbed relationship. She knows that a little extra effort would make her life better. Sometimes, the exertion makes her doze off on the desk. Can’t deny, despite dealing with her didi’s mood swings, she manages to bounce back to conquer the world everyday. But what’s thought provoking is, no matter how much effort is put into her studies, she would be married off at 14 or may be as soon as she attains puberty and would grew up becoming a domestic help.

The other day, I was teaching her ‘Photo Synthesis’, and like many of us in that age, she didn’t bother to learn the spelling and just learned the process. Often fascinated with the fact, cactii
grows in massive numbers in her village, she desires to be an amphibian, so that if she gets bored of land, she can chill in the water as well.

In two days, it’s exam time, and she loves to recite a poem, which ends with- ‘I’ll be right out to play with you’. I don’t what she dream of to be, but definitely knows most farmers live in pakka

Huts and not in the houses made of mud.
